Boiler Failure
What are the signs that my boiler may be ready to fail?
Boiler Failure
- Consider the age of your boiler.
Most systems last around 15 years. Cast iron boilers can last longer—often 20 to 30 years—but performance may decline with age. - Watch for a low AFUE rating.
AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) measures how efficiently your boiler converts energy into heat over a year. A low rating means your boiler is using more energy than necessary to heat your home. - Notice rising energy bills.
If your heating costs keep climbing, your unit may be losing efficiency. Replacing it with a high-efficiency model could lower your bills enough to help cover the cost of the new system. - Pay attention to frequent breakdowns.
Have you needed multiple service calls? Most boilers work well with annual maintenance. Constant repairs may signal it’s time to replace the unit. - Look for warning signs like black soot or yellow flames.
Black soot on oil boilers or yellow flames on gas burners suggest the fuel isn’t burning properly. Check your carbon monoxide detectors immediately, then contact us for a replacement quote. - Watch for leaks.
Leaks often mean a broken valve or seal. You might notice wet spots or rust around the boiler. Replacing the unit now can help prevent costly flood damage later. - Deal with uneven temperatures.
If your home feels too hot or too cold, your boiler’s control system may be failing. This inconsistency is often a sign that the unit is nearing the end of its life.
